⚠️ DO NOT USE MECHD WHILE DRIVING. Mechd must only be used when your vehicle is stationary, parked, and the engine is safely accessible. Never attempt to record audio, review results, or interact with the app while operating a vehicle. Doing so is dangerous and could result in serious injury or death. You are solely responsible for ensuring you use this app safely.

IMPORTANT: Mechd does not provide professional mechanical advice. Results are AI-generated suggestions only. Always consult a qualified mechanic before making decisions about vehicle safety or roadworthiness. If you are concerned about the safety of your vehicle, do not drive it until it has been professionally inspected.

1. Nature of the Service

Mechd is an AI-powered vehicle sound analysis tool. The Service uses artificial intelligence to suggest possible mechanical causes based on audio frequency analysis performed on your device and symptom information you provide.

Mechd is not a mechanical inspection service. Mechd is not staffed by qualified mechanics. The Service does not hold any automotive engineering qualifications, certifications, or professional accreditations. Nothing produced by the Service should be treated as a professional mechanical opinion.

2. AI-Generated Results

2.1 How results are produced

Diagnostic suggestions are generated by Anthropic Claude, a large language model, based on the text inputs you provide and audio classification labels generated on your device. Results represent the AI's assessment of probable causes based on the information available. They are not definitive diagnoses.

2.2 Limitations of AI diagnosis

You acknowledge and accept the following inherent limitations of AI-generated diagnostic suggestions:

  • Results are probabilistic, not certain. A confidence percentage indicates likelihood, not confirmation.
  • The AI cannot physically inspect your vehicle. Results are based solely on sound patterns and symptom descriptions.
  • Multiple faults can produce similar sounds. The suggested cause may not be the actual cause.
  • Vehicle condition, age, modification, and driving environment affect sound characteristics in ways the AI cannot fully account for.
  • The AI may not recognise unusual, rare, or combined faults.
  • Results should never be used as the sole basis for a decision about vehicle safety or roadworthiness.

2.3 Language of results

Results are expressed as possible causes and suggestions. The use of words such as "possibly", "likely", "suggests", or "may indicate" in any result reflects the probabilistic nature of the analysis. These terms are deliberate and material. They do not constitute confirmation of any fault.

3. Audio Analysis Limitations

The audio analysis component of Mechd runs entirely on your device. The accuracy of the frequency analysis is subject to the following limitations:

  • Recording quality — ambient noise, microphone quality, and recording distance affect accuracy
  • Sound context — the same sound can indicate different issues depending on conditions such as speed, temperature, load, and steering position
  • Intermittent faults — sounds that do not occur consistently during recording may not be captured or correctly classified
  • Multiple simultaneous sounds — where more than one fault exists, the analysis may identify only the dominant frequency

Mechd does not guarantee that any audio analysis will correctly identify or classify any sound. The audio classification labels used in the diagnostic process are probabilistic estimates, not technical measurements.

4. Not a Safety Assessment

Mechd does not assess whether your vehicle is safe to drive. No result, output, or communication from Mechd should be interpreted as confirmation that your vehicle is roadworthy or safe for use on public roads.

The Service does not and cannot confirm:

  • That a vehicle is safe to drive
  • That a fault is minor or non-urgent
  • That a vehicle meets the legal requirements for road use
  • That a fault will not worsen or cause further damage if driving continues

If you have any concern about the safety of your vehicle, you must cease driving it and seek a physical inspection from a qualified mechanic before returning it to use.

5. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Mechd Ltd excludes all liability for:

  • Any loss, damage, injury, or death arising from reliance on any result, suggestion, or communication produced by the Service
  • Any decision made to drive, repair, or not repair a vehicle based on the output of the Service
  • Any consequential, indirect, or economic loss arising from use of the Service
  • Any damage caused by a vehicle fault that was incorrectly identified, missed, or misclassified by the Service
  • Any cost incurred as a result of acting on, or failing to act on, a diagnostic suggestion

Nothing in this disclaimer excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under English law.

Insurance implications: Users should be aware that driving a vehicle with a known fault may affect their motor insurance cover. If you receive an assessment indicating a potential fault, you should disclose this to your insurer if relevant and seek professional inspection before continuing to drive the vehicle. Mechd accepts no liability for any insurance-related consequences arising from use of the Service.

Age restriction: Mechd is intended for use by persons aged 18 or over only. By using this Service you confirm that you are at least 18 years of age. If you are under 18, you must not use this Service.

6. User Responsibility

By using Mechd you accept full responsibility for all decisions made in relation to your vehicle. You acknowledge that:

  • You will treat all results as suggestions only and seek professional mechanical advice before acting on them
  • You will not use the Service as a substitute for a physical mechanical inspection
  • You will not drive a vehicle you believe to be unsafe regardless of what the Service suggests
  • You are solely responsible for ensuring your vehicle is roadworthy and legally compliant for road use
  • Mechd bears no responsibility for any outcome resulting from your use of the Service

7. Third Party Mechanics

The Garages feature within Mechd may display local mechanics and repair services. The inclusion of any business in these results does not constitute an endorsement, recommendation, or guarantee of the quality, safety, or reliability of their services.

Mechd accepts no liability for the conduct, workmanship, advice, or charges of any third party mechanic or garage found through or referred to by the Service.

8. Payments and Subscriptions

Payments are processed by Stripe. Mechd does not store payment card details. All billing disputes should be raised with us at info@mechd.co.uk in the first instance.

Subscription fees are charged in advance. Refunds are not provided for partial subscription periods. You may cancel your subscription at any time and will retain access until the end of the current billing period.

Credits are non-refundable once used. Credits are only refunded to your account where no audio signal was detected in your recording, in which case the credit is returned automatically. No cash refunds are provided for credits.

9. Accuracy and Availability

We make no warranty that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from technical faults. The Service is provided on an "as is" basis without warranty of any kind, express or implied.

Diagnostic suggestions are generated by AI and may contain errors, omissions, or inaccuracies. We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or fitness for purpose of any result produced by the Service.

10. Updates to This Disclaimer
